Copy of email sent to family following. We did go into Pancake Creek and had lovely sunny day last Sunday. Salacia proceeded north and Blues Point arrived. Motored on to Gladstone Monday before the rain set in. Sunny and cold since- 9 deg C. inside cat yesterday. Will go further north shortly after completing business stuff here.

…COLD WEATHER SAILING FROM BUNDABERG

As you all are aware (the Ozzies at least) coldest weather in Queensland for 80 years and ever for many locations. We have experienced down to 10 deg C inside the cat for nearly a week now, better than the less than that outside.
Yesterday rose at 6am for a 7am departure from Bundaberg Port Marina in company with Owen and Dianna of ‘Salacia’ another Lightwave 38, in fact the one before ‘Out Of The Blue II’ on the production schedule. Temp 10 deg C and did not rise above till about midday. See the light rays through the ice particles in the atmosphere.
On clearing Burnett Heads we initially had a good sail with up to 20 knots SW on the beam. With main and screacher sails drawing us along at up to 9 knots, doing consistently 7-8 for a while. Unfortunately the wind died from about 1130 necessitating motoring. Not being able to make Pancake Creek by dark (would have easily if wind had held) we entered Round Hill Creek near 1770/ Agnes Waters. Found delightful anchorage just inside Round Hill Head – too congested and shallow further in near the caravan park.
Note all the kit Lyn has on, including thermals! My Tasmania bush walking gear getting good use.
Currently raining here at 1770 however forcast and Gladstone weather radar (accessed by internet BoM and our NextG modem) suggest rain belt to clear seaward this pm – so will go on to Pancake Creek 2-3 hours north where if forcast correct we may enjoy a ‘fine’ day tomorrow before more rain Monday. may have to buy a heater in Gladstone! We gave 2 away before leaving the Gold Coast.
We are alive and well even if somewhat cold.
