HOME SWEET HOME
At 09.15 on Friday we crossed our original track (recorded in the log on the 16th June 2006) in Moreton Bay to complete our circumnavigation. It was a very emotional moment for both of us. In my case a lifelong dream to sail around the world and in Penny’s the realisation of what she had achieved.
The moment became even more special as we were given a display by 2 large hump back whales that breached just in front of us as we turned to head into the north east channel by Moreton Island.
Although the weather as expected was beginning to deteriorate and we were motoring into a 20knot southerly and some rough seas neither of us minded as we were spending our time phoning and texting family and friends and enjoying the moment.
We finally pulled into the quarantine dock at Rivergate marina, Brisbane at 12.30 and opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate our achievement.
The customs only took about an hour and they were very friendly and efficient and bar parting with the $330 it was a pleasure to do business!!
By 7.30 that night we were completely shattered and collapsed into our bed and had 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep. No bouncing, no rolling, no watches, no sound of the sails and sea and engines!!! It was bliss.
