ROCK, ROLL, RAIN REEF TRIP & LOTS OF WIND
It was blowing 15-20knots and we didn’t have our sea legs as yet but we were super keen to head out to the reefs ,I was sure the winds would drop…wrong Robin. When our anchor windlass died it was return to Townsville or hang on the only public outer reef mooring within 100 miles at beautifull Wheeler reef. Unfortunately its a small reef offering little protection in 20 not winds. Neap tides made it worse giving little respite to the agitated boat movement & our discomfort. However despite rain and wind we hung in for 4 days…i had 4 dives…(Susan made her home on the couch for 4 days!!!). My first 2 dives were in my favorite shallows but were’t much chop due to poor visability and wave action but then i went deeper to a beautifull spot rising from 30 me deep to 10 me & it was truly magnificent. I’ve named it Wheeler Mini Mount . I could call it Sweetlip city with big numbers of emperor, grass and spotted varieties and heaps of good coral, reef fish and big schools of fusiliers anf darts cruising. Vis was 15me & water temp 24c.
However it is nice to get back to Magnetic Island…. now the weathers bound to improve!!!!
